Parkinson’s Disease

In a normal, healthy body, dopamine is produced by nerve cells to enable the body’s muscles to move smoothly. Parkinson’s disease is a neurological disease that causes these dopamine-producing cells to break down, which makes the brain unable to communicate with nerve ends effectively. This causes the body’s movements to be impaired. It is a progressive disease with no known cure. However, there are many ways that Parkinson’s may be treated to allow the patient more movement and comfort while living with this disability, including Deep Brain Simulation.
